Monday, February 6th, 2017

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (February 6, 2017) – Egan Company, a Brooklyn Park specialty contractor, has named its new chief financial officer.

The privately-owned company, which has its local operations in the Twin Cities and Southern Minnesota, hired local financial leader James Ford. Ford will serve as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing the financial functions within Egan and acting as an adviser to all lines of business.

Ford joins Egan after more than 15 years in public accounting working as Business Partner with Eide Bailly LLP providing accounting, audit, tax, and consulting services to clients in various industries. Additionally, he has served as a department leader and has experience in strategic planning, succession planning, and educating others on utilizing business metrics as a way to improve operations and performance.

“We are excited to have someone of James’ caliber join us at Egan,” said Jim Malecha, Egan Company President and CEO. “Not only does James have the technical skills and knowledge to succeed as CFO, he also has a dynamic personality that fits our culture and will integrate well with our business groups and leadership team.”

Ford received his bachelor of science in accounting from North Dakota State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He also volunteers as a board member for Minnesota-based nonprofit, Dads Make a Difference.

Nietz Electric Repositions and Takes Parent Company Name

Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

ROCHESTER, MN (February 1, 2017) – Nietz Electric, a Rochester specialty commercial contractor, is repositioning itself to further showcase expanded service offerings. To align with this growth, it will rebrand from Nietz Electric to take on its parent company name, Egan Company.

Founded in 1936 by Rochester local, Emil Nietz, Nietz Electric has historically offered commercial electrical services – from construction and building maintenance. Egan Company has expanded the Nietz Electric business to offer more trades services since its acquisition in 2002.

“With the ownership transition 15 years ago, it remained important to us to operate as a local contractor with Twin Cities resources . . . we’ve held our reputation close and have a deep history in this community,” said Jeff Young, Nietz Electric Vice President. “About a year ago, we noticed a shift in Southern Minnesota and have experienced a need from customers to offer services at a higher level than ever before. We’re able to deliver many of these services that smaller contractors aren’t able to, including delivering Design/Build projects and utilizing virtual construction technologies and prefabrication capabilities.”

Over the past several years, Nietz Electric has expanded more into the healthcare, industrial, and agricultural markets. It also has become fully integrated into Egan operations, with many Egan trade specialties working locally – from low voltage to mechanical to curtainwall/glazing. Repositioning and taking on the Egan Company name directly addresses the customer need for local contractors to deliver more complex, multi-trade projects.

“We looked at the Nietz brand, core services, strengths, and future opportunities and decided it was time to bring Nietz Electric under one name in order to be consistent and current with our offerings,” said Duane Hendricks, Egan Company Chief Operating Officer. “This will help us continue to integrate our Company internally and externally to represent the safety, quality, and promises we deliver to our customers.”

Nietz Electric operates from a local office (4475 Highway 14 W, Rochester) with customers served across Rochester and the Southern Minnesota-Northern Iowa region.

“Even as Egan, we are still the specialty contractor and service provider that has served the community for over 80 years,” said Young. “Today, however, we are able to provide an unmatched level of service to the Rochester and surrounding area.”

As the popularity of smart building technology increases, Egan Company continually strives to provide customers new and innovative ways to implement this technology in their facilities. Due to this commitment to innovation, Egan was chosen as a Lenel OnGuard value-added reseller.

The OnGuard line of products is a natural fit for Egan and its technology team because of its strong integration capabilities, allowing customers to effectively manage their property and assets. Breaking the Glass Ceiling

Monday, October 17th, 2016

A recent article in Glass Magazine, highlighted the lack of women in construction and how some companies in the glass industry have made efforts to solve a worker shortage by recruiting more women to join the industry.

Tim Woolworth, Egan Company Senior Vice President, was interviewed for the story, providing insight into how Egan’s InterClad team deals with potential worker shortages.

[Hiring women] would help offset the labor shortage and we have experienced this on recent projects,” says Woolworth. “Some of these recent past projects have field labor utilization goals requiring a certain percentage of the field crew be … female. These goals have raised awareness for the unions and ourselves that have helped put a focus on new female recruits.
