PROJECT BLACK BEAR

A state-of-the-art, 100-acre research and development campus is accelerating medical innovation in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The new 400,000-square-foot, three-story facility includes 80,000 square feet of lab space and 320,000 square feet of office, collaboration, and support areas. Egan Company provided a wide range of services in a multi-trade role—supporting the electrical, technology, and InterClad scopes of work. The Electrical team collaborated in a Design/Assist role and completed (1) 4,000-amp service, (4) 3,000-amp services, (1) 2,500-amp service, and (32) Level 2 EV charging stations expandable to 150 stalls. Technology and Limited Energy systems on this project included voice and data networks, owner-supplied wireless access points, fiber and copper backbone installation, network switch installation and patching, and Cat 6/Cat 6a cabling throughout the facility. The project’s Fire Alarm & Life Safety Systems featured a Notifier addressable fire alarm panel supported by 142 smoke detectors with bases, a digital voice command center, manual pull stations, emergency push buttons in hazardous areas, and remote monitoring and testing capabilities. Collaboration and prefabrication across trades ensured efficient delivery of this high-performance medical R&D facility.
