ESSENTIA HEALTH

A stunning new piece of the downtown Duluth skyline: Essentia Health’s Vision Northland project, St. Mary’s Medical Center. In a Design/Assist role, the InterClad team fully enclosed the building in a unique patterned glass. 942,000 square feet and 12 stories of new health care space were created for patients and staff. The scope included installing 190,000 square feet of unitized curtainwall, 30,000 square feet of cassette curtainwall, and thermal doors. Patterned glass was utilized to mitigate migrating birds from running into the glass – the frit applied to the glass looks transparent to humans, but is visible to birds. The goal of the project was to create a healing environment where the highest quality health care can be delivered while attracting and retaining top medical professionals in the community.
