Partnering With What Matters

Monday, August 28th, 2017

Packing good food… fast! Our partnership with the nonprofit organization Matter had Egan employees going head-to-head in a friendly competition to beat hunger. Egan volunteers were split into eight teams each was determined to pack the most boxes of food over the two hour period.

To keep things interesting, teams had to abide by the ever-changing packing tactics like using only one hand or standing on one foot. The Blue Team took home the win for most boxes packed, while the White Team won the “Spirit Award”. However, the most important victory of the day came from the 4,113 GoFuel packs of food that filled the boxes for local children in need.

Matter is a nonprofit on a mission to expand access to healthy food in our community. The concept behind the MATTERbox is simple: a box of healthy, shelf-stable meals and nutrition education, helping children of all ages take their first steps towards a healthier life. Thank you Matter for driving such a great call to action!

One Trade – Building a Family Tradition

Thursday, June 29th, 2017

The saying “like father like son” holds true for the Hedtke family with four generations in the sheet metal trade, three of whom have worked for Egan Company.

“My father was already in the business, so I decided to give it a try too,” said Dale Hedtke, Egan Company Sheet Metal Field Leader. “It’s what you did back then… 33 years later and I’m still loving it.”

In 1984, Dale followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the union (Sheet Metal Workers Local 10). Thirty years before that, Dale’s father, Donald Hedtke, followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the local sheet metal union. And now, Hunter Hedtke, Egan Company Sheet Metal Apprentice, has followed in his father’s, grandfathers, and great-grandfather’s footsteps by joining the union and continuing to make the sheet metal trade a family tradition.

Donald worked as the Egan Company Sheet Metal Shop Foreman and on various Egan projects throughout his career, and Dale and Hunter are currently on a jobsite together for a Mystic Lake Casino project.

Egan has been a great place to work. I like working with the people and knowing I’m part of something good. It’s one of the reasons I’m still here, knowing the good Egan does.

– Dale Hedtke, Egan Company Sheet Metal Field Leader

Onsite Training and Development

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017

With ever-evolving technology, it is essential for companies to provide employees the tools to improve and enhance skills. Egan Company has built a Technology Center to provide employees a way to grow skills and learn more about popular, and some new, systems used on Egan projects.

Used primarily by engineers and technicians, the Technology Center is a learning environment that includes lab materials for various systems: fire alarm, security, card access, video surveillance, networking, building automation, process controls, and concrete batching. The space is also used as a method for testing a system before installing it at a jobsite.

“The more our employees understand the products and systems we offer, the better they can be at installing and servicing them,” said Jeff Hawthorne, Egan Company Senior Vice President. “With the development of this space, Egan’s leadership team continues to make educating and developing our employees a priority.”
