The Minnesota Safety Council has awarded three Governor’s Safety Awards to Egan Company for excellence in safety.
Egan is amongst a very small group of companies to receive an Award of Honor; recipients of this award have incident rates at least 91% better than the industry average and a score between 91 and 100 on the safety program evaluation scale. Egan received the Award of Honor in 2014 as well.
Two Meritorious Achievement Awards were also earned, recognizing an outstanding record and incident rates better than the industry average for at least three years, respectively.
Traditionally, The Minnesota Safety Council honors award winners at its Governor’s Safety Awards Ceremony at its annual conference; however, due to COVID-19 developments, this event has been postponed until Fall 2020.
The Minnesota Safety Council, founded in 1928, is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Minnesota by preventing unintentional injuries (“accidents”). Since 1934, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards program has honored Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance. Applicants are judged on several years of injury data as it compares with their industry’s national statistics, and on their progress in implementing a comprehensive safety program.

There is no doubt this pandemic has presented new challenges for everyone. As government officials begin to lift “Stay at Home” Executive Orders, Egan is here to help transition facilities to ensure all sites are operational. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do for you.
Thank you for working alongside us through this unprecedented time. We’ll continue to assess our plans and adopt new methodologies based on guidance from national and local governments and health authorities—and ask you to do the same.
We’re all experiencing an unusual time with the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak developing throughout the United States and in our communities. Like you, the safety and well-being of our employees and their families, our customers, and our colleagues are of utmost priority.
Across the company, we have taken preventative measures to stay prepared
Below are the precautions and practices Egan has implemented over the last week to “slow the spread”:
Mobilizing a Task Force team that is meeting daily to closely monitor the situation, quickly implement safe working environment strategies as outlined by public health agencies, and continuing to develop our prevention, preparedness, and response plans
Encouraging all Egan employees to self-monitor daily for symptoms that could be associated with viral respiratory infections (fever, cough, shortness of breath) before coming into work
Enacting key CDC guidance, including social distancing, hygiene measures, and minimizing large social gatherings
Leveraging technology and various communication avenues to keep employees informed of changing expectations and updated tactical plans
Implementing screening protocol (cruise or recent travel, known exposure, symptoms)
Limiting all non-essential in-person meetings and placing restrictions on visitations
Encouraging remote work wherever viable
Asking for your support by following similar precautions
To ensure the safety of everyone on the job, Egan is asking all customers, partners, subcontractors, vendors/suppliers to also follow similar protocols. This includes:
Adherence to CDC and MDH guidance
Maintaining ongoing communication and informing Egan of any anticipated project changes or supply chain interruptions
Screening all visitors prior to visiting or working at any Egan site, shop, or office
We are also committed to doing our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 and maintain a healthy workforce
At this time, Egan is not experiencing (and does not anticipate) delays in responding to customer needs. We will continue to uphold our commitment to providing responsive, high-quality, skilled trades services to keep our customers’ facilities and their systems operationally sound. We will also continue to serve our customers’ construction and fabrication needs, while implementing necessary precautions on jobsites to monitor and maintain the health of our workforce.
Our thoughts are with anyone who may be affected by the coronavirus. As the situation evolves, we will work alongside you as we all manage through this unique challenge together.

The ability to be consistent is often an invaluable characteristic of a great leader. Most people would agree that being consistent is challenging. Furthermore, the ability to build consistency within an entire team is a whole different degree of difficulty.
It first requires clear goals and expectations, followed by patience, focus, and ample accountability. However, once mastered, consistency breeds success. And, the art of consistency is exactly how Tim Woolworth, Egan Company Senior Vice President and Board Member, has built success within the InterClad (glass, glazing, and metal panels) team. After two decades, Woolworth will be retiring from Egan in January of 2020.
Leading by Example
Woolworth first joined Egan’s InterClad team in late 2003 as Vice President of Operations. In this role, he oversaw project managers, the fabrication shop, and field. Given his strong skill set and background in project management, he also ran projects simultaneously.
“When I came to Egan, one of the reasons I still ran work in my role was because I always did everything you’re supposed to do… the basics of managing a project,” Woolworth joked. “Leading by example is what I pride myself on. So, when it came down to doing what was needed, nothing was ‘one more thing’ or ‘I’m too busy’.”
His consistent, lead-by-example approach and ability to instill accountability within his team has been the pinnacle of Woolworth’s leadership style throughout his career. Woolworth will be the first to admit that everything from the time he arrives at the office in the morning down to the fine print of closing out multi-million dollar projects is precise and intentional – and without question, hard work.
That said, the leader’s knack for doing the details right have not only elevated his 40-year career, but elevated the InterClad team and his peers within the company. Both InterClad and Egan have more than doubled in size since the 2000s.
Keeping the Passion
Operations and growth aside, ultimately his love of the curtainwall industry has also played a huge part in the success. The opportunity to build the bigger, taller, or more architecturally masterful structures is what has kept him within the business over the years.
“You never really build two buildings the same. Every project takes on its own personality,” explained Woolworth. “Along with that, there’s a good sense of satisfaction to be able to drive around and see the work you do. It’s classy and one of the most appealing parts of this industry.”
A few notable projects InterClad has completed during Woolworth’s tenure include U.S. Bank Stadium, the Cargill Campus, Target Corporation’s North Campus, multiple University of Minnesota buildings, and numerous new Downtown Minneapolis high-rise condominiums like 365 Nicollet, Rafter, 4Marq, and Nic on Fifth. Furthermore, InterClad’s biggest projects to date are coming over the next few years with the construction of RBC Gateway in Minneapolis and the Essentia Health campus in Duluth, both of which are on the team’s list of record backlog.
The Future of InterClad
While Woolworth will be leaving InterClad with a historic backlog, he still believes that the best is yet to come for the strong team. “I believe getting to another level within our region is doable,” he said. “I truly hope that what we’ve established within InterClad and within Egan will continue… And, I hope it’s a better company years from now than when I left it.”
Leading the charge for the InterClad team moving into the future is Ryan Woodruff, who joined Egan in early 2019 as Woolworth’s successor.
Woolworth will be moving back to his native state of Iowa, where his two children and grandchildren reside. His love for details and mastery of consistency will be applied to a very different kind of project scope which includes D.I.Y. projects at his newly built lake home as well as giving back through local volunteerism. He also wants to do more recreational fishing, boating, reading, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August
20, 2019) – Egan Company, a
Brooklyn Park specialty contractor, announced the upcoming retirement of Tim
Woolworth, Senior Vice President, in 2020.
Joining Egan’s InterClad (curtainwall/glazing/metal panels) team in 2003, Woolworth has served as the leader of the InterClad business unit since 2010 as Vice President and Senior Vice President. He joined the Board of Directors in 2011.
Starting his career
in Des Moines, Iowa, Woolworth worked in various project management,
estimating, and management roles before moving into senior leadership at Egan.
During his tenure at Egan, the business has experienced remarkable growth and the
construction of many notable projects – U.S. Bank Stadium, Target Corporation
North Campus, and Cargill Campus – Excelsior Boulevard to name a few.
“It has been an
honor and a privilege to lead the InterClad team and provide leadership to this
great company,” said Woolworth. “I’m excited to see Egan continue to grow as I

Two local lobbying groups, Citizens for Safe Work Zones (CSWZ) and AGC of Minnesota, have introduced bills that improve safety for Minnesota road workers. Egan Company has partnered with these groups and support their effort to make a positive impact on work zone safety at the legislative level.
Egan’s involvement has included guidance and recommendations to CSWZ and AGC of Minnesota, as well as providing testimonials before legislative committee hearings. We also have supported both of the parties’ objectives around eliminating distracted driving as a result of handheld mobile phones.
CSWZ Objectives for the 2019 legislative session:
Increased speed enforcement activities in work zones (inclusion of automated speed enforcement in work zones with speeds 45+mph)
Public education campaign on work zone safety
Establish collaborative expectations with MNDOT to improve baseline work zone safety requirements to protect contractors working on the road
Specific traffic control and worker protection requirements for all MnDOT jobs
Appropriate and additional funding from MnDOT
MnDOT/contractor contractual review process to ensure adequate worker protection per project
AGC of Minnesota Objectives for the 2019 legislative session:
Proposing/supporting
bill to enact state law against using hand held mobile devices in work zones
Supporting
additional bill to enact state law against using hand held mobile phones in a
vehicle
While there is no definite timeline for these bills, more
information will be available at the end of the 2019 legislative session. As a
company, we will continue to support state and industry legislative initiatives
that improve the safety of Minnesota road workers.
Turning hunger into hope – and, having a little fun in the process. Such was the theme of the Feed My Starving Children MobilePack held at Egan’s Champlin facility for the fourth consecutive year.

ran from February 20-25th and welcomed more than 4,400 members of
the community. The goal: to do our part to help in-need children across the
globe.
Over the
course of five days, 1.2 million meals were packs which will provide food to
3,515 children for an entire year!
Furthermore,
Egan employees also did their fair share of packing and volunteering.

and/or pack food.
