ROCHESTER, MN (February 1, 2017) – Nietz Electric, a Rochester specialty commercial contractor, is repositioning itself to further showcase expanded service offerings. To align with this growth, it will rebrand from Nietz Electric to take on its parent company name, Egan Company.
Founded in 1936 by Rochester local, Emil Nietz, Nietz Electric has historically offered commercial electrical services – from construction and building maintenance. Egan Company has expanded the Nietz Electric business to offer more trades services since its acquisition in 2002.
“With the ownership transition 15 years ago, it remained important to us to operate as a local contractor with Twin Cities resources . . . we’ve held our reputation close and have a deep history in this community,” said Jeff Young, Nietz Electric Vice President. “About a year ago, we noticed a shift in Southern Minnesota and have experienced a need from customers to offer services at a higher level than ever before. We’re able to deliver many of these services that smaller contractors aren’t able to, including delivering Design/Build projects and utilizing virtual construction technologies and prefabrication capabilities.”
Over the past several years, Nietz Electric has expanded more into the healthcare, industrial, and agricultural markets. It also has become fully integrated into Egan operations, with many Egan trade specialties working locally – from low voltage to mechanical to curtainwall/glazing. Repositioning and taking on the Egan Company name directly addresses the customer need for local contractors to deliver more complex, multi-trade projects.
“We looked at the Nietz brand, core services, strengths, and future opportunities and decided it was time to bring Nietz Electric under one name in order to be consistent and current with our offerings,” said Duane Hendricks, Egan Company Chief Operating Officer. “This will help us continue to integrate our Company internally and externally to represent the safety, quality, and promises we deliver to our customers.”
Nietz Electric operates from a local office (4475 Highway 14 W, Rochester) with customers served across Rochester and the Southern Minnesota-Northern Iowa region.
“Even as Egan, we are still the specialty contractor and service provider that has served the community for over 80 years,” said Young. “Today, however, we are able to provide an unmatched level of service to the Rochester and surrounding area.”

Since 1980,
Construction projects involve great collaboration. Engineers, designers, general contractors, specialty contractors, suppliers – all must work together. But it’s not often that these relationships evolve from vendor to customer.
The new expansion to their Owatonna facility adds over 360,000 square feet to the existing 1.2 million square feet facility. Egan’s Southern Minnesota team is providing electrical services to this new space, including general lighting and power.
