Gifting the Holiday Spirit

Tuesday, December 17th, 2019

The joy of the holidays filled the Earle Brown Event Center on December 12 at Egan’s Annual Employee Christmas Party and Toy Drive. Each holiday season, we aspire to collect as many toys as possible for those in need in our community through our partnership with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

This year was no different – Egan was able to donate over 650 toys as well as $650 to the foundation! Egan employees were also featured on KARE 11 to drop-off our donation on Friday, December 13.

Another charitable gift was made from Egan Company to the Ronald McDonald House. For a second year, employees donated their Christmas gift; and Egan matched the overall employee donation. In total, Egan donated $8,450 to the Ronald McDonald House charity this December.

The spirit of Christmas was in the air at Egan’s Annual Employee Christmas Party and Toy Drive on December 5. With each holiday season, we set a new Toys for Tots donation goal within our company. And, this year was no different as employees set out to donate over 1,000 toys.

Give a little, Lift a lot

Friday, June 9th, 2017

“Convenient, more comfortable, and so cool,” –words Patti Franz, Stable Pathways Director, uses to describe the new scissor lift donated by the Fridley Lions Club and Egan Company. Stable Pathways is a nonprofit program providing horse-assisted activities for people living with physical and cognitive challenges.

Operating out of Oak Haven Farm in Oak Grove, Minn., Stable Pathways is home to six therapeutic equines – including three horses and three big ponies, and a small staff made up of mostly volunteers. Since opening its doors in 2009, Stable Pathways has grown from three clients to now roughly 40-60 clients.

Due to this growth and varying needs of its clientele, it became evident that a more systematic way to mount and dismount from the horses was necessary to help limited-mobility riders. Prior to this lift, volunteers were manually lifting these riders on and off the horses – a process Franz says was “awkward and taxing” for all parties involved.

In order to help raise money to purchase a custom-made, push-button controlled lift, Stable Pathways began the “Lift Us Up” campaign. To help their efforts, the Fridley Lions Club gave a partial donation to the nonprofit in 2016; then in March 2017, the fundraising efforts came to full fruition when the Lions Club completed their sizable donation allowing Stable Pathways to move ahead with their purchase.

To help construct this 4×7 square-foot platform, Egan donated the required materials and permit to install it at Oak Haven Farm. Don Fehringer, Egan Company Electrical Journeyman and dedicated volunteer for six years at Stable Pathways, provided the labor to do the disconnect and power feed for the lift. All of the construction finished in early May and was ready for riders and volunteers (and horses!), to begin instructional training by the end of spring 2017.

“Egan’s and Don’s sponsorship of the permit and materials has been tremendous for us,” said Patti. “We wouldn’t have this [lift] otherwise. It is great for our staff, the horses, and every client that rides at Stable Pathways.”

Donating Food for Local Families in Need

Monday, November 21st, 2016

When we set goals, we not only meet them, but exceed them! Egan employees in both the Twin Cities and Southern Minnesota offices banded together during our Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to exceed our goal of donating five barrels of food with a total of eight overflowing barrels of food for local families in need.

Partnering with the Twin Cities based Community Emergency Assistant Programs (CEAP), and the Southern Minnesota based Channel One Regional Food Bank and The Salvation Army in Austin, employees donated non-perishable items so families in our community can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.

CEAP is a Brooklyn Park-based nonprofit dedicated to helping families gain financial stability and maximize their ability to live independently. Channel One Regional Food Bank is nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping feed people in need in Rochester, MN. The Salvation Army in Austin is a local center of the national Salvation Army that operates across the United States. Their mission  is to feed, to clothe, to comfort, to care. Thank you to CEAP, Channel One Regional Food Bank, and the Salvation Army for providing food and comfort for those in need this holiday week.

New Community Partnership

Saturday, October 15th, 2016

DSC_0333_editFrom the very first day Egan & Sons opened their doors, Egan Company has been dedicated to actively supporting causes and local organizations that help those in need. This value is driven from all areas of the company, and continually brings employees together to reach local families in need of our support.

This summer, Egan formed an exciting new partnership with the Brooklyn Park Police Department (BPPD). Employees came together and raised $5,000 to buy K-9 officers, Kilo and Bongo, stab- and bullet-resistant vests.

“We have been beyond impressed with Egan’s quick action to get the employee giving campaign rolling and get money raised for the K-9’s vests,” said BPPD Officer Tom Dunnwald. “Without Egan’s help, it would have taken a very long time to raise the funds needed and the dogs would be working the streets unprotected.”

These custom-made vests will protect Kilo and Bongo for the next several years on the force, and ensure their safety as they work to protect the community where we work and live.

We see the need in our backyard and beyond, and are dedicated to help in any way possible – as employees and individuals – for many years to come.

Competing to Help Those in our Community

Friday, September 30th, 2016

2016-BloodDriveFall (36)A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, and in this case, helped save lives in our community! Partnering with Memorial Blood Center, two Bloodmobiles parked in Egan’s Brooklyn Park and Champlin office parking lots and the two offices competed to see who would have the most donors.

A total of 56 employees donated blood throughout the morning on September 30, 2016. But the lucky winners with four more donors than the other office, and the proud winners of the Egan Company Blood Drive Trophy went to the Champlin office with 29 total donors! Together, Egan gave the gift of life to those in need.

Memorial Blood Centers is a Minnesota-based, independent nonprofit supplying life-saving blood, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area hospitals and clinics.

A Tradition of Paying it Forward

Friday, August 28th, 2015

So much is changing in the construction industry, but some values never quite lose their luster. Notions like family, community, and charity, for example, are as prevalent today as they were in 1945 when Egan Company was founded.

For the past 70 years, Egan has been actively involved in the community by rallying employees to support generous causes, and the first half of 2015 was no different as employees collaborated with Twin Cities-based Hearts & Hammers for the thirteenth time and participated once again in a local food-packing competition through the non-profit, Matter.

“Remodel” is a word that gets thrown around a lot at Egan. Usually, it pertains to a commercial project. But last May, Egan employees partnered with Hearts & Hammers for a different kind of remodel; one that would transform the house of an elderly Minneapolis resident.

There were more than 40 Egan employees in attendance, including Egan Leaders, and field and office personnel. We spent the morning and afternoon fixing up and repainting the house. The house had survived years of wear-and-tear, including a fire on the front porch years ago.

“This year was one of the first that we’ve had an all-Egan team, so it was great to see everyone participate and work together to help out someone in need,” said Jim Malecha, Egan Company President & CEO.

A fresh coat of paint took off years from the house and garage’s façade, and the backyard is now transformed with an all-new walking path, a reinforced deck, and a neat little sitting area inside a newly refurbished garden.

“I’ve been here 47 years and I just can’t believe it’s my house,” said Katherine, homeowner.

A food-packing competition was held through Matter, a local nonprofit, to support local children and families in need of nutritious meals.

Eight teams of Egan employees raced to pack meals, and the competition was fierce, with teams rushing to arrange and seal boxes as quickly as possible within a time limit. When the final tallies were counted, the winning team came out on top after packing 81 total boxes.

“This event was for a good cause to help provide food for kids in food deserts in the Twin Cities,” said Nick Ravetto, Egan Company Safety Coordinator. “It also brought together people at Egan for a great team-building event.”

Ninety-five Egan employees attended the event and packed 695 boxes, which amounted to 3,475 meals. Quenton Marty, President of Matter, said the boxes Egan packed would provide over a week and half of meals to students in local free lunch programs.

The group (and individual) efforts of Egan volunteers have been a lasting source of pride throughout all seventy years of the company’s existence. Each day brings more opportunities, and each day we hope to continue our rich tradition of supporting the local community.
