Egan acquires ERC

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (January 6, 2014) – Egan Company, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest specialty contractors, is pleased to announce that Electric Resource Contractors (ERC) has joined forces with their Company. ERC, a 78-year old company based in Minneapolis, offers life critical power solutions for healthcare facilities, Level 1 Trauma Centers and Emergency Rooms, critical data centers, enterprise distribution centers, as well as many other industrial applications.

The addition of ERC further expands Egan’s presence in the electrical market and will enhance the Company’s range of services, application knowledge, and industry specific capabilities.

Egan Acquires Weber Electric

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (February 23, 2012) – Egan Company President and CEO, Jim Malecha, announced today that Weber Electric of St. Paul will become part of Egan Company, effective March 2 of this year.

Founded in 1960 by Leo Weber, Weber Electric has served the Twin Cities Metro Area with electrical construction, service and communication work for over 50 years. While Weber Electric is becoming part of the Egan Company family, they will retain their office in St. Paul, and operate as; Weber Electric – an Egan Company. They will continue to be led by brothers, Steve and Rob Weber.

“We are excited to welcome the Weber team into our group of businesses,” commented Malecha, “This company shares our business philosophy of customer satisfaction and service and will be a positive addition to our existing offerings for our customers. They will also greatly strengthen our presence in the East Metro market.”

According to Malecha, a 10-year personal relationship between he and the Webers was the impetus to getting the deal put together.

Egan acquires KF Controls

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (December 6, 2011) – The Egan Company Board of Directors announced today that KF Controls of Coon Rapids, has become part of the Egan family.

After serving the automation needs of concrete products producers and original equipment manufacturers for 28 years, KF has closed their shop and moved all employees, equipment and expertise into Egan’s main facility in Brooklyn Park, according to Egan CEO, Jim Malecha.

KF Controls partners, Phi Kramlinger, Eli Martin, and Tim Blair will all retain significant positions within Egan’s Industrial Controls Group. This is the third acquisition for Egan this year.

“With these acquisitions we’ve added more than 200 hard working employees both in our offices and in the field,” said Malecha. According to the CEO, the company is now back to pre-recession employment numbers with work in progress about two and a half times what it was at the start of the year.

Egan appoints two new board members

Minneapolis, MN (June 22, 2011) – Jim Malecha, Egan Company President & CEO, is pleased to announce that long time employees Jim Paul and Tim Woolworth have been named to the Egan Company Board of Directors.

“These two men possess deep experience, proven leadership skills, and a real passion for our business,” said Malecha. He also cited a vibrant energy along with a positive, “can do” attitude as strengths they bring to the board room table.

Jim Paul, who joined Egan in 1993, and had been running the company’s Service Group for the past seven years, will be taking over as Executive Vice President of the Mechanical Group on July 1, replacing Bill Marshall who is retiring.

Tim Woolworth, a 30-year glass veteran, joined Egan in 2003 and is the Vice President of InterClad, Egan’s curtainwall, glass and architectural metal company.

Egan Acquires Industrial Electric Company

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 20, 2011) – Egan Company announced the acquisition of Industrial Electric Company (IEC), a 92-year old company offering complete electrical services for the commercial, industrial, institutional sector including power, water treatment, and ethanol plants and specializing in industrial automation for agribusiness, food processing, and conveyance.

The acquisition of IEC further expands Egan’s presence in the industrial controls market while at the same time enhancing the Company’s range of products, application knowledge and industry specific capabilities.

“By adding Industrial Electric’s experience, markets served, and customer base to our existing Industrial Controls business unit, it also strengthens our position as a leader in systems integration, and plant productivity improvement,” said Jim Malecha, Egan President & CEO.

The acquisition is expected to have a significant impact on the manufacturing and production facilities market. Producers of food and beverage products, specialty chemicals, rubber and paper products, and any company involved in material handling/conveyance should see additional benefits from the resources of the new combined organization, according to Malecha.

Approximately 13 IEC employees will move into Egan’s corporate office in Brooklyn Park and 35 field personnel will join Egan. IEC President, Gary Novak, will step away from the day-to-day activity and remain a consultant for an unspecified time period.

Egan Acquires Collins Electrical Systems (ColliSys)

Minneapolis, MN (February 1, 2011) – The Egan Company Board of Directors announced today that Collins Electrical Systems, Inc., of New Hope (ColliSys) has become part of the Egan Company. The acquisition further strengthens Egan’s position as the third largest electrical contractor in this market with combined annual revenue in the $150 million range.

According to Jim Malecha, Egan President and CEO, it is the perfect marriage of two companies sharing similar philosophies, values, skill sets and operations with each bringing a different leadership position to the combined company.

“While Egan has been traditionally stronger in electrical construction and special projects, ColliSys has been the area’s largest provider of outside electrical construction and service. So it makes us stronger all around,” said Malecha in announcing the news.

Outside electrical includes highway and road construction, exterior building lighting, and parking lot applications.

Operating in Minnesota since 1933, ColliSys built a strong and deserving reputation as a market leader earning the respect of customers and competitors alike. Over the years, the company has enjoyed solid growth, winning significant projects including a major portion of the Central Corridor Light Rail Train (LRT) project last summer. The ColliSys executive leadership tandem of Bruce Young and Bob Gorg will assume senior leadership roles at Egan. Bruce will serve as Sr. Vice President of electrical special projects and Bob will operate as Sr. Vice President of the combined outside electrical group.

All told more than 150 ColliSys employees joined Gorg and Young in becoming part of the new Egan. The combined company will operate primarily from Egan’s Brooklyn Park home with the outside electrical group activities housed at the former ColliSys offices on Minnesota State Highway 169 in New Hope.
