SPECIALTIES FEATURED WITH THIS PROJECT:

Industrial Controls

  • A national turkey processing plant in Minnesota gained full-facility visibility and control while setting itself up for long-term scalability thanks to electrical design and equipment upgrades from Egan Company and its Refrigeration-IQ™ solutions.
  • The project came to life after a thorough site visit with the team, which led to a better understanding of the equipment details and project requirements.
  • The facility’s existing system was siloed among each of its processing components, making it difficult to start and stop the equipment, view the status of the system, and manage the entire process without manually checking in on each piece of the plant.
  • Many parts of the existing controls were outdated and obsolete, requiring creative solutions to remove unnecessary wiring without damaging operational equipment.
  • In order to maintain uptime and minimize disruptions to the plant’s production, Egan’s team carefully coordinated the design, shutdown, and installation over the course of five months.
  • The scope of work included a newly designed ammonia refrigeration controls system, Refrigeration-IQ™, including conduits and trough locations, compressor sequencing, consolidating equipment and electrical service, and navigating around existing wiring.
  • This controls solution includes level transmitters, pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, and VFDs for condenser fans. This has led to significant improvements of condenser discharge control, from a 20-pound fluctuation to a half-pound fluctuation for greater temperature accuracy.
  • The project also included integration with the facility’s rooftop units, giving plant managers greater visibility of room temperatures, fan control, and more.
  • Egan partnered with the local electric utility company to help submit for a custom energy efficiency rebate due to the plant efficiencies achieved through the equipment upgrades.
